Mike Pence, the current vice president of the U.S., was hacked last year when he used his personal email to discuss security matters. At the time he was the governor of Indiana. An American newspaper has reported the incident.
Pence used his personal email to communicate with other officials and advisors. He corresponded with them on various important security matters.
The hacker was able to access the email and used the address to send out phishing mails to contacts. In these phishing emails, the sender requested the victims to send money. The hacker was probably not aiming at Pence specifically, but used to email to access other email accounts through these phishing mails.
Last year, Pence was heavily against Hillary Clinton using a private server to send out her emails.
Hopefully, officials in the U.S. are more careful with their email since these incidents occur more often.
