Press bureau Reuters has stated that the U.S. Senate has accepted the proposal which enables internet providers to sell the internet data of their users. Providers do not have to ask permission to do this and are allowed to share the data freely.
The new rules still have to be accepted by the House of Representatives. There is some strong opposition towards the proposal, such as senator Richard Blumenthal. He said that the proposal is a ''direct attack on the rights of the consumer and their privacy''.
The Federal Communication Commission (FCC) is not allowed to set any rules on the sharing of privacy data in the future anymore. This is also the case if the proposal is denied by the House of Representatives.
