Results from research carried out byMalwarebytes show that Cerber ransomware is the most popular ransomware to be used to attack Windows computers.
Cerber is now used more than the fromerly popular Locky-ransomware. An important cause for this seems to be that Cerber is offered as ''ransomware as a service'', by which the buyer can gain access to ransomware and only has to spread it after buying. A piece of the ransom paid by victims will go back to Cerber when using ''ransomware as a service''.
Criminals with a lower amount of knowledge of ransomware are now also able to spread ransomware through the service. Malwarebytes states that we will need investigative services to arrest Cerber developers and stop the operation.
