Press bureau Reuters has stated that five former and current government officials of the United States have shared information on three FBI probes investigating the cyber attacks on the elections. The FBI uses several several offices to investigate the cyber attacks on the Democratic Party.

Reports of the FBI investigating the matter have been made earlier, but there was never specific information on the focus of each investigation. The FBI bureau in Pittsburgh has made progress, but does not currently have enough evidence to point towards the attackers. The FBI's San Fransisco office is investigating the group behind the cyber attack on Clinton's campaign manager. This group goes by the name of “Guccifer 2”.

The investigation from the Washington office is using information from informants and is trying to intercept communication between several parties. According to government officials, the FBI is also trying to investigate Russian individuals and companies. The investigation focuses primarily on transactions between Russia and others.

The FBI's new assistant-director against cybercrime, Scott Smith, has declined to respond to questions about the progress of the investigations.

Donald Trump has stated that he does not have any business connections with Russian companies, but said that he expects that Russians have carried out cyber attacks on the elections. He also stated that he expects other countries to have carried out cyber attacks on the U.S. as well. Several officials of the government have stated that people who were involved in Trump's campaign have also been in touch with Russian officials. It is not clear why there was any communication with Russian officials.
