The Associated Press has stated that users of Yahoo who have been attacked by cyber criminals have received notification of this by Yahoo.

Several cyber attacks have been aimed at Yahoo and the most recent one was carried out in December 2016. Cyber criminals used false cookies to acquire account information. Multiple groups of hackers apparently possess techniques to steal personal information from Yahoo users.

Yahoo stated that false cookies have been repaired and neutralized, but users who become a victim of the cookies will now also receive direct notification of this. Yahoo didn't want to share any information on the scale of the attacks.
