Avast initiated 132 million unique scans and has shown that apparently 22 percent of the scanned routers were vulnerable to cyber attacks. Routers are vulnerable because of weak passwords and mistakes in the software of the devices.
Routers often have many functions and possibilities, while their users are not aware of the range of these functions. Cyber criminals often try to attack routers, because of their vulnerability. Because users connect other devices to their routers, attacking a router results in many more possibilities to gather information.
Avast has developed a new bit of software called Chime. This software adds another layer of protection to routers to that they are better protected in the future.
